How is this different from just renaming to .cbr?
Renaming to .cbr keeps the RAR compression, which some readers cannot handle. This tool genuinely repacks the contents into a ZIP-based CBZ, giving you a file that works everywhere rather than one that only works where RAR support exists.
Are the images re-encoded during the repack?
No. The pages are extracted from the RAR and written into the ZIP unchanged, so image quality is exactly the same. Only the compression wrapper around them changes.
Will the CBZ be bigger than the RAR?
Usually slightly, since ZIP compresses a bit less efficiently than RAR. With already-compressed comic pages the difference is normally just a few percent — a fair trade for universal reader support.
Can you handle multi-part RAR archives?
No. Split archives (.part1.rar, .r00, .r01) need to be recombined into a single archive first, which requires desktop RAR software.
What if the RAR is not a comic?
Only image files are carried into the CBZ. A RAR full of documents produces an essentially empty comic archive, so this tool only makes sense for archives of page images.
