General Questions

What is ComicConverter.com?

ComicConverter.com is a free online tool for converting comic book files between different formats. We support popular formats like CBR, CBZ, PDF, EPUB, and more.

Our service also includes comic book editors, readers, and extraction tools to help you manage your digital comic collection.

Is ComicConverter.com really free?

Yes! ComicConverter.com is completely free to use. We don't charge for conversions, don't require registration, and don't have premium tiers or hidden fees.

Our service is supported by optional, non-intrusive advertising and donations from users who find our tools valuable.

Do I need to create an account?

No account creation is required. You can start converting files immediately without providing any personal information, email addresses, or registration details.

How does the conversion work?

All conversions happen directly in your web browser using advanced WebAssembly technology. Your files never leave your device - everything is processed locally on your computer.

This client-side approach ensures maximum privacy and security since we never have access to your files. No uploads, no servers, no data collection - just pure local processing power.

Supported Formats

What file formats do you support?

Input Formats (what you can upload):

  • CBR (Comic Book RAR) - RAR compressed comics
  • CBZ (Comic Book ZIP) - ZIP compressed comics
  • PDF (Portable Document Format)
  • EPUB (Electronic Publication)
  • RAR archives
  • ZIP archives
  • Individual images (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP)

Output Formats (what you can convert to):

  • CBZ (most popular comic format)
  • CBR
  • PDF
  • EPUB
  • ZIP/RAR archives

What's the difference between CBR and CBZ?

CBZ files: Use ZIP compression, which is faster and more widely supported. Most modern comic readers prefer CBZ.

CBR files: Use RAR compression, which typically achieves better compression ratios but requires additional software to create.

For most users, we recommend CBZ format due to its better compatibility and ease of use.

Can I convert PDF comics to CBZ?

Yes! We can extract images from PDF files and convert them to CBZ format. This works best with image-based PDFs (scanned comics) rather than text-based PDFs.

Note that the conversion quality depends on how the original PDF was created and may not preserve all formatting or special features.

Do you support DRM-protected files?

No, we cannot process files with Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection. This includes many commercially purchased digital comics from platforms like ComiXology, Marvel Unlimited, etc.

Technical Questions

What are the file size limits?

Individual files: Up to 100MB per file

Batch processing: Up to 500MB total per session

Images: Up to 50MB per image

Tip: If your files are larger, try compressing them first or splitting large comics into smaller volumes.

Why is my conversion taking a long time?

Conversion speed depends on several factors:

  • File size and number of pages
  • Your device's processing power (CPU and RAM)
  • Browser performance and available memory
  • Complexity of the source format

Most conversions complete within 1-5 minutes. Very large files may take up to 15 minutes.

What browsers do you support?

ComicConverter.com works best on modern browsers that support WebAssembly:

  • Chrome 57+ (recommended)
  • Firefox 52+
  • Safari 11+
  • Edge 16+

Mobile browsers are also supported, though processing may be slower on mobile devices.

Can I use this on my mobile device?

Yes! Our service is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. However, keep in mind:

  • Processing may be slower on mobile devices
  • Large files might consume significant bandwidth
  • Touch gestures are supported for drag-and-drop operations
  • The comic editor works great on tablets

Security & Privacy

Is my data safe and private?

Yes! We take your privacy seriously:

  • All processing happens locally in your browser - files never leave your device
  • No file uploads to servers - everything stays on your computer
  • We have no access to your files or comic content
  • Website delivery is encrypted with SSL/TLS
  • No personal information is required or collected

Do you keep copies of my files?

Absolutely not! We never have access to your files in the first place. Here's exactly what happens:

  • All conversions happen locally in your browser using WebAssembly
  • Files never leave your device - no uploads to our servers
  • We have no access to your files or their content
  • No storage, backups, or analysis of any kind

Can you see the content of my comics?

No. Our conversion process is automated and does not involve human review of your files. We do not read, analyze, or view the content of your comics. The conversion is purely technical (format transformation) without content inspection.

Is it safe to convert copyrighted material?

You are responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to process any files you convert. Generally, it's safe to convert:

  • Comics you own for personal use/backup
  • Public domain materials
  • Your own created content
  • Files you have explicit permission to modify

Legal Note: Converting copyrighted material for personal use may be protected under fair use laws in some jurisdictions, but you should verify this based on your local laws.

Troubleshooting

My conversion failed. What should I do?

Try these steps:

  • Check that your file is in a supported format
  • Ensure the file isn't corrupted or password-protected
  • Try refreshing the page and selecting the file again
  • Try with a smaller file to test if it's a size issue
  • Ensure your browser supports WebAssembly

If problems persist:

  • Try a different browser
  • Disable browser extensions temporarily
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Contact us with details about the error

The conversion finished but the quality is poor. Why?

Conversion quality depends on the source material:

  • Low-resolution source: We cannot improve the original image quality
  • Heavy compression: Highly compressed source files may show artifacts
  • Format limitations: Some formats don't support all features of others
  • Processing settings: Try different output formats for better results

Some pages are missing after conversion. What happened?

This can happen for several reasons:

  • The source file had corrupted or inaccessible pages
  • Non-image files were skipped during conversion
  • Very small or invalid image files were filtered out
  • The source archive had an unusual structure

Try extracting the original file manually to check if all pages are intact.
