How does CBR to PDF work without uploading my file?
The RAR archive is unpacked in your browser by a WebAssembly build of unrar, and the extracted pages are assembled into a PDF locally. Your comic is never transmitted anywhere — you can disconnect from the network after the page loads and the conversion still completes.
Is any quality lost?
Pages under 2MB are embedded exactly as they are. Pages above 2MB are re-encoded as JPEG at 70% quality to keep memory use manageable, which is a lossy step on those pages. If you want a guaranteed lossless result, convert to CBZ instead.
Why does a large CBR take so long?
RAR decompression is more computationally expensive than ZIP, and it runs on your own CPU rather than a server. Expect roughly one to five minutes for a typical issue, and considerably longer for a large omnibus on a phone.
Can I convert a CBR that contains subfolders?
Yes. Images are collected from every folder in the archive and then sorted by natural filename order. Non-image files such as ComicInfo.xml or readme files are skipped rather than turned into blank pages.
Does the PDF keep the comic's metadata?
No. Series, issue number and creator metadata from a ComicInfo.xml file are not carried into the PDF. If preserving metadata matters, convert to CBZ and use the ComicInfo.xml editor instead.
